CARNIVAL IS COMING!

Carnival or Carnaval in Spain comes from the latin word "carnis" meaning flesh. The festival is connected to meat, food, feasting and excess and over the years has developed into the ultimate street party.

In Murcia Carnival takes place 40 days before Easter. It is the perfect time to see Murcia in a vibrant mix of colour, sequence, feathers and the most extravagant costumes.

The Carnival is based around the larger than life character of Don Carnal. Don Carnal symbolises pleasure, lust, excess - everything that makes a good party. Throughout the Carinval Don Carnal is in battle with Doña Cuaresma, who embodies the coming of Lent, and the fasting which comes with it.
